Founded in April of 1984 in Pineville, NC by Reverend Charles Tyndall (1933-2017) and his loving wife, Gladys Ann Tyndall 1936-2021, Tyndall Furniture & Mattress was originally called Tyndall Furniture Galleries. Upon opening, the store front on North Polk Street sold only home furnishings, rugs and accessories and had three unique buildings with it’s trademark large yellow letter board signs towering over the road below. Over many years, the Tyndalls have expanded their number of locations as well as their product line to include a specialty line of completely customizable upholstery options, power reclining, power lift chairs, mattresses, customizable handmade hardwood dining, the finest art, area rugs, lamps, accessories and more. Our flagship location in Pineville is still open today, as well as an additional location Indian Land, SC and a mattress storefront in the Blakeney Shopping Plaza in Charlotte, NC.
Over three decades, operations have changed hands and the family business is now managed by second generation Tyndalls, Chuck Tyndall and his sister Diane Tyndall Jones, her husband Ellis Jones, and their son Jonathan Jones, a third generation Tyndall who works in inventory management. Although Reverend Charles Tyndall joined Jesus in heaven on January 18th, 2017 at the age of 83, his family is still very much involved in carrying out his dream for a family business that is passionate about the people that they serve. With strong Christian values, the entire Tyndall family's focus is on serving the community and meeting the furniture needs of our customers with excellence and integrity. John Hancock, a popular local radio personality has shopped with Tyndall for many decades and is a loyal promoter of the Tyndall Furniture & Mattress brand. Additionally, the Tyndall’s provide their special Tyndall Pedic Memory Foam Mattresses each year for the NFL Carolina Panther’s Training Camp. As a result, many well-known football players have advocated for the Tyndall Pedic brand and purchased our mattresses. Tyndall Pedic has been known as the Preferred Mattress of the Carolina Panther’s Training Camp since 2006 and has been promoted by professional football players Thomas Davis and Frank Reich. Additionally, one popular figure in the greater Charlotte area that promotes the Tyndall family of brands include WFNZ radio host, Chris "Mac" McClain.
The founder of our family business, Reverend Charles Tyndall, was passionate about giving back to his community. This culture of handwork and generosity has been engrained in the generations that manage Tyndall Furniture and Mattress in present day. The owners and employees of our three stores live locally in the greater Charlotte area. Each of the men and women on the Tyndall Team are actively involved in serving the community and giving back. Some of the charities that we have worked with in recent years include, but are not limited to, Charlotte Rescue Mission, HOPE in Lancaster, I Reach Africa, the National Safety Council, Musicians Mission of Mercy, Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, Indian Land Fire Department, and Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child.
